Also: Street Rallies, Tabling, and More
It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and
let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.
• Our next meeting will be Wednesday, June 3 at 6:00 pm at the
Chico branch of the Butte County Library at 1108 Sherman Ave.
corner of First Ave.
• Chico Sky Watch Is On The Move Again. At our last meeting the group decided to donate $100 to the Carnicom Institute toward their purchase of a $14,000 infrared spectrophotometer to further their already extensive research into the aerosol fall out and its effect on the biosphere. It was Clifford Carnicom's documentary, "Cloud Cover", that was so well received when we showed it at the Pageant on April 18 so we were pleased to be able to donate. Thanks to all who supported this event. We also sent a $50 donation to Dane Wigington at www.GeoEngineeringWatch.org to help with his tireless efforts to bring awareness and action to these devastating aerosol programs. • Street Rallies.
Our street rally on April 25 was an energizing experience. Lots of positive response
from the passing drivers— honking, waving and cheering. We had so much fun that we plan to do a rally
each month. It was a very effective way to let other like-minded people know about us and to
encourage them to get involved. Our signs are already made so the hard work is done. We'll announce
the June rally date soon.
• Community Activism and Outreach via Tabling. Spring weather and the unrelenting toxification of the atmosphere prompted us to resume our tabling efforts at the Saturday Farmers' Market. For the past two weekends Marla, Betty and/or Cindy have been doing outreach on the Flume Street (east) sidewalk of the Market from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Strangers approach the table sometimes curious and semi-informed and other times very knowledgeable
and ready to join us in the struggle. We pass out flyers, answer questions, and sign up to the e-mail
list those who wish to become involved. If you are interested in joining us, reply to this e-mail or
just drop by the table and say hello.
• CSUC Student Group. We have been encouraging every student we meet to start both a Chico State SkyWatch group and a Butte College SkyWatch group. (a common indicator of how well any "movement" is doing is whether there are college and university groups) All that is needed for CSUC to start a student group is an adviser and one student. We have an adviser volunteer, activist Tom Imhoff, a professor in the Department of Philosophy. You may contact him on campus or contact us and we can try to get this going.
