Last Saturday's "Cloud Cover" screening a success!
When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.
• The first of our two events for Earth Day / Earth Week this year was a success! Nearly 50 people came to see Clifford Carnicom's "Cloud Cover" on Saturday! Almost everyone stayed for the Q&A afterwards and contributed to an in-depth discussion. We sold every copy of the "Cloud Cover" DVDs that we had made and ended in the black after paying for the rental of the theater. And ten new people signed up to our e-mail list. We call that a resounding success. Thank you again to everyone in the group who helped promote the event, putting up posters, handing out flyers, developing the ads and helping with set up and support. Another thanks to our seven sponsors: Nina Widlund, Lotus Guide, Chico Peace & Justice Center, Dr. Pruett, and our three anonymous donors, for making the event financially possible. Thanks to Miles Montalbano at The Pageant Theatre for his encouragement and support. (The Pageant is always very supportive of our efforts.) And a big thank you to Marla Crites for successfully managing the big project and doing all of the many things required in such an endeavor, which was quite an undertaking, and Bill Donnelly who designed the beautiful poster, the ad (with help from the CN&R ad team – thanks to them, too), and the DVD insert. (and Mr. Kopy – they are also always very supportive of our efforts) And apologies to the several people who showed up to the '2:00 showing' due to a misprint in the CN&R. • Our second event is this upcoming Saturday! Join us at our Street Rally this Saturday, 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm, on the Plaza corner diagonally across from Has Beans. (the south east corner; corner of 5th and Main) Let’s have a big turn-out Saturday and show Chico how many people are paying attention and objecting to the toxic aerosol programs. If 20 or 30 people can gather on the corner of 5th and Main at noon, we can really turn some heads. Many people in this community are already aware of the issue. They are more likely to join in the struggle to stop the spraying when they see many others showing the courage to speak out. So come on down! Bring your sign if you have one. Or pick up one of our extras. Or just come be in the group. And smile; it’s going to be fun! • Break Every Chain: Reflections on Liberation From Systems of War and Imprisonment This special speaking engagement by activist Kathy Kelly is on April 29th at 7:30 pm on the CSUC campus in room PAC 134, the Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall in the Performing Arts Center between Chestnut and Normal on West 2nd Street. The entrance is on the north side on old 1st Street. More information can be found at the Chico Peace & Justice Center website announcement. Note that Kathy Kelly will also be joining Chico drone protestors at Beale AFB on the two days prior, the 27th and 28th, in an Occupy Beale Air Force Base protest. See the CP&J announcement for more info.
